Sunday March 8th 2015 – Castleton/High Peak
The Final Countdown
So the 16th series is now all done and dusted – after six incredibly well supported events with generally pretty good weather across the board with competition venues/areas covering most of the Dark and White Peak District i.e. Great Longstone (September); Tegg’s Nose (November); Chapel (December); Grindleford (January); Darley Dale (February) we ended up for what should have been a glorious finale in Castleton on a rain sodden March morning!! The rain set in just as the first rider set off and then stopped just after the last rider finished – we collected the controls in during the afternoon in bright sunshine….roll on summer!
Despite the weather and the muddy tracks the Dark Peak proved beyond doubt that mountain biking in this area is top drawer stuff and the perfect setting for the final round of this years series – hilly; challenging terrain; a great network of tracks, trails and bridleways; lots of route choices/dilemmas plus great scenery to boot.
Some great performances as ever and category winners are as follows (27 controls and 750 points max):
Men David Lawrance 540
Ladies Esther Hobson 318
Vet Men Andy McKenzie 523
Vet Ladies Sheila Pearce 420
Super Vet Men Phil Upton 537
Super Vet Ladies Ro Cole 366
Men 60+ Dennis Jaques 380
Ladies 60+ Clare DeFaye 328
Mixed Team Edward Benison/Martina Savio 70
Vet Mixed Team Mark & Vanessa Condliffe 388
Super Vet Mixed Carolyn & Phil Sykes 400
Generation Peter & Oliver Sutton 187
Rider of the day – Sheila Pearce – 420 points and 23rd overall. A very determined effort!
*See notes below regarding queries relating to Control 9 – the event results will be declared full and final at 7.00pm on Sunday 15th March. We will then calculate and publish the final league table.
Control 9 – Shatton Moor – unfortunately this control was slightly mis-placed when we put it out, we estimate 200 metres south of the position on the map. We know that some of you raised this matter at the finish but we couldn’t fully comment until we had collected the box in and re-checked the map etc.
On the day some riders ‘persevered’ and found the box but others didn’t/couldn’t so to anybody in the latter category affected can you please email us this week on info(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)darkandwhite.co.uk and we will check your split times/track etc and if correct then as a compromise we will credit you with half points i.e. 15.
We will not make any amendments to times or time penalties for anybody. We apologise for this error and any problems caused. On this basis the event results as now published will not be declared final until 7.00pm on Sunday evening 15th March.
