SPORTident electronic timing explained
SPORTident timing is most commonly used in orienteering based events but we like it for sportives because it is ultra reliable, weather proof and provides you the rider with an instant post event time.
It consists of SPORTident Si card more commonly known as a dibber (a small plastic tag about 2″ long with a timing chip in it) and a control box. The dibber records the time when you “dib” into control box.
There are 4 different places you need to “dib”
START BOX
FEED STATION BOXES
FINISH BOX
DOWNLOAD BOX
When signing on for your sportive you will be provided with your dibber which will be attached to your wrist. The first time you will need to use it is at the start. Here you will “dib” the dibber into the START BOX to record your start time. From this point until the finish your ride time is being recorded.
At every feed station there will also be FEED STATION BOXES. It is compulsory stop and “dib” so ensure you do stop even when you don’t need sustenance.
At the finish dib in the Finish Box to stop the clock on your ride.
Finally return to event HQ and return the dibber and download your ride in the DOWNLOAD BOX. Instantly you will be printed a ride time for you route.
The key things to remember is dibbing is compulsory NO EXCUSES
